MORE INFORMATIONS

Martin Margiela is a Belgian fashion designer who founded the French luxury fashion house Maison Margiela in 1988. He is known for his avant-garde and deconstructed designs, as well as his use of unconventional materials and techniques.

Margiela was born in Genk, Belgium, in 1959. He studied fashion design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. After graduating, Margiela worked as a designer for several fashion houses, including Jean Paul Gaultier and Comme des Garçons. In 1988, Margiela launched his own label with a collection of women's ready-to-wear. His designs were immediately met with critical acclaim, and he quickly became one of the most influential designers of his generation. Maison Margiela's designs are characterized by their deconstructed aesthetic. Margiela often takes traditional garments and deconstructs them, revealing the underlying construction. This helps to create a sense of rawness and authenticity in his work.

Margiela is also known for his use of unconventional materials and techniques. He often uses recycled and upcycled materials, and he often incorporates deconstruction and other experimental techniques into his designs. This helps to create a sense of innovation and originality in his work.

Maison Margiela's designs have been worn by celebrities, fashion insiders, and everyday people alike. The house has won numerous awards, including the CFDA Award for Womenswear Designer of the Year in 1997 and 2000. In 2009, Margiela retired from fashion design. He sold his label to the OTB Group, which continues to produce collections under the Maison Margiela name.
